Some word about Gyula, the 800 years old town of spas

Gyula is situated in Eastern Hungary, near the romanian border 200 km far from budapest. Gyula was founded in the 13th century by the hungarians. In the 15th century the town became the center of the surrounding lordship. In that time a castle was built here. There were no quarry in the vicinity so this castle was completely built of brick, and inspite of the numerous wars of that ages, the citadell remained intact. Now this is the only citadel of the type remaind intact in central europe. Nowadays a museum waits for the visitors with different exhibitions all the year.

Between the mid 16th and the late 17th century Gyula was ruled by the turkish. There are buildings left by these times. After the turkish were wiped out from the country, the town was resettled by people from three nations: german, hungarian, and romanian. During the sightseeing you can easily recognise the differences in building style.

The bath of Gyula is situated in the beautiful park of the Almássy mansion and is part of a nature reserve area. In the late 60’s thermal water was found under Gyula. The water comes from more than 2000 metres deep, and is about 72 degrees hot. Gyula is famous for its spa which was reconstructed a few years ago, and for its health-tourism. Year by year more than 750.000 content guests leave the castle-bath of the town.

The Erzsébet pension

Just 300 metres from the Castle-Bath, this pension is centrally located for exploring Gyula the 800 years old beautiful town of spas. You can reach the downtown with a 5 minute walk. The pension was completely upgraded in 2004, and now it includes six separate apartment, and a big garden, whith furniture, where you can have a shower at a hot afternoon, or you can even grill. There is a closed parking beside the garden with a place for 7 cars. The Erzsébet pension is open for you all over the year.

The apartments are the following:

1.st.: 2 rooms (w. 3 + 2 beds), a kitchen with dining room, a shower room, a restroom. A total of 37 m2

2.nd.: 1 room (w. 4 beds), an anteroom, a kitchen with dining room, a shower room, a restroom. A total of 48 m2

3.rd: 1 room (w. 3 beds), a kitchen with dining room, a shower room, a restroom, an anteroom, a balcony. A total of 33 m2

4.th. 2 rooms (w. 3 + 2 beds), a kitchen with dining room, a bath room, a restroom, an anteroom, a balcony. A total of 45 m2.

5. th. A suite. There are 2 bedrooms (w. 3 + 3 beds), a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, a bath room, a restroom. A total of 95 m2.

6. th. 2 rooms (w. 2 + 2 beds) in a separate building, a kitchen with a dining room, an anteroom, a shower room, a restroom, and grill opportunity, just beside the building.

All apartments have kitchen, shower room, restroom. All kitchen are suitable for cooking. And of course there are tableware, as well as fridge. Every bedroom is equipped with air conditioner, and cable tv where you are able to choose between more than 40 channels (in different languages).

There are half board and full board services available in association with our partner restaurants situated near the pension and even in the bath. In Gyula there are festivals, exhibitions all the year, and the number of events increases year by year. You will certainly find your amusement whenever you come to Gyula.
